We will arrive in Bolu, Turkey late afternoon and spending a night on our way to Ankara in March. I am wondering what are some noteworthy interests in this city for a few hours? I've got to be honest and say There is a small but interesting 'sanat evi' featuring local handicrafts which will kill maybe an hour.
If you want you could go the hamam. There are a couple of very old ones in the town centre the oldest being Orta hamam built in the 's. It is called Orta Hamam and is right in the town centre on Ataturk Street. Thanks for the recommendations. I will look into those.
We are staying at Koru Hotel , do you know if that's close to the town center? Koru Hotel is lovely, set amongst the forest before you get into the town centre which is roughly minutes away. If you are coming by car then the hotel is clearly marked as you come off the motorway and if you are arriving by bus then the new bus terminal is on the'right'side of the town for you and is around 10 minutes from the Koru, just a short taxi ride. Ask the concierge at Koru for a quick trip to Abant lake and if you have the time, further to Mudurnu.
This may even be worth renting a car. In any case this will definitely beat going to an old hamam in Bolu proper. Sadly the OP only has a couple of hours late afternoon in March, other wise I too would have suggested these places. It will be almost dark by BTW the Orta Hamam is a lovely building carefully restored. Dusk was today and will be at about in exactly 60 days, in early March.
Considering that you will need the daylight in visiting Abant but can drive back at or after dusk, if you take off from Koru between and you should be fine. In fact, if you drive up the hill behind the lake, just before sunset, you will have some tremendous photography possibilities. I totally agree with Otherchelebi's excellent post. You should pay a visit to the wonderful Abant lake since it is the prime attraction in that area.
